"Two notches beyond": The Blog from Louis J Casson. All about Poetry, lyrics and music.

“Two notches beyond”:

The Blog from Louis J Casson,
on poetry, lyrics and music.

Welcome back everyone to my new and revised blog page, hope you like the new format and colour!

My newly released book: “Retribution Blues”
Earlier this month I published my ninth book of poems and lyric on Amazon Kindle, so I’ll have to see the feedback from this, here’s the link to take a look now.

This is the Americana music band of Myself and Philip Walding; a blend of blues, rock, pop, country, and whatever else comes to mind.

With Philip Walding taking the lead guitar and singing duties; I’m on acoustic and electric 12 strings, electro-acoustic ukulele, and singing also.
The band really started when I realised that quite a few of my poems – around 50% - had come out a lyrics, but I needed a musical partner to help me produce complete the lyrics to finished songs. Hence Phil!

It’s a complimentary partnership where Phil sticks to his core talents of rhythm and lead guitar plus singing, leaving the uke etc to me. At the moment we have around eight songs in draft form and we’re polishing arranging these before launching live gigs in earnest.
On “What they say about me” I play an Applause/Ovation electro-acoustic ukulele; this sounds like an amplified classical guitar also a uke, a bit special. “Retribution blues” is a deep blues, to give you a little chill down the spine! Sampler tracks coming, more clear and polished.

Spoken poetry tracks.
As part of selecting the tracks to develop in The Tanglewood Twins. I went into my back files of books and MP3 files of spoken poems/lyrics to see if these were any that took my fancy to make into finished songs.

The selection is still under thought, but here’s a couple for you to listen to enjoy; with, not surprisingly a blues slant to them:-

Yup times are tough, but we are tougher so we will get through.

A bit tongue in cheek, or perhaps grim? A companion to another piece of mine, “Loving Dead Blues”, where in a black humour way we share the thought “better off dead” (not really folks, just a transient thought that we all get time to time as when REALLY fed up!)

Updates to my Behance portfolio site.
Recently added my book cover picture plus two taster poems from “Retribution Blues”.

FYI, on my reading list / playlist:-

CD’s
Various country music collections 40’s to 70’s
Leanne Rimes: Best of.
No plan B: Van Morrison.

Books:

Angels (and Demons too) by Peter Kreeft
Raylan, by Elmore Leonard.

This is about all for now folks, off to play my uke banjo. I’m still learning this, I approach it as a different instrument to the usual wooden body uke; busy developing a bluegrass picking style on this – we’ll see what comes out.

For personal reasons l expect this will be my last Blog until the 2014 New Year; so until the next time, keep safe.

Best wishes,
Louis
